Dear Fellow Auctioneer,

 

n a small room above his garage my dad earns decent cash every day at Online Auction. He makes it look easy. He has all the tools he needs to work on the web. If he doesn't have the right tools he can't concentrate on what he does best ... selling at auction.

My Dad and Computers ...He Knows Zilch About Them... They Terrify Him!

If he was going be serious about becoming an online auctioneer ... it had to be easy as 1,2,3!

So as you can imagine, the thought of managing any kind of computer software program filled him with total fear.

He thought a hard drive was a car with poor suspension. He thought a mouse was a little hairy rodent eating holes in everything. He thought a keyboard was one of those boards with hooks where you put your car keys. Urghhhhhh.

A computer was only used in Sci-Fi B-movies. When computers kicked off big time my dad avoided them like the plague. He hates new stuff, detests it! That's until he read about selling on eBay and creating a new income.

After that... he started driving me completely crazy. He was on the phone every 30 minutes hassling me to death, so I would get round to his house and show him how to kick start an eBay account so he could start selling online.

I decided to go nip round and try and sort him out. Gave him an old windows 95 computer with a modem and upgraded it to 98. It was good enough.

We talked for hours about how to make online auctioning a reality for him. We all (including mum) decided to just try it and see.

Conclusion; What does every retired person on the planet have loads of ? ...

Loads of Boxes of Old Discarded "antiques". Junk to Him ... Precious to Buyers

... So I agreed to help him out the best I could.

I showed him how to find eBay. How to Login and create himself an account. How to get the whole caboodle up and making some regular cash. I left him to it, that weekend. He did OK...

Dads First Auctions Totally Exposed an Image Management Headache That Is A Major Problem For Online Auctioneers...

As an eBay seller you can have as many items up for sale as possible but ONLY one image per item.

We soon discovered a real neat trick to INCREASE eBay SALES. The more pics you have of any item it actually increases bids and sales (we personally tried this and the difference was incredible to sales!.)

In other words if I had pictures of the bus above from both sides, front, rear and maybe even from the top and even the underside of the bus to prove its date and make.

It would sell faster, better, quicker and if I added one final picture of a real strong close up, LARGE... it would literally explode the auction bids.

If we used eBay's image facility that would cost money. In fact adding the extra "5" images using eBay would cost me 15 cents for each one. That meant I would lose 75 cents from my item.

Try Some Image Management Software For All His Images+++= Even More Hassle For Dad!

... and I did. I bought a load of image programs. What it didn't tell me though was that you had to be a full-blown rocket scientist to get this software working. What was I to do?

I loaded up the "new program" that were going to make my dad's image managing and editing life a whole lot easier.

Major problem. When he loaded up the pictures say of his 1967 red collectable buses.

Here is exactly what he would do.

Go to the upload interface or screen. Click on the upload image button. Enter the URL for the image. Image would then look the FULL SIZE of the screen. There was NO image editing facility.

Try telling a total computer dummy how to scan in and get an image the exact size before loaded it into eBay. Wasn't going to happen with dad.

eBay and other auctions have to have the image size nearly right. If they aren't well it looks a little crazy on screen.

We tried a few other bits but nothing did it. The one thing I haven't told you is this ...

For everything listed above you could easily pay as much as $200 per year at least. Just the web hosting alone would cost over $10.00 per month. And all that expense just eats away at your profits.
